Kelechi Iheanacho lasted only four minutes on the pitch as Celtic defeated Sturm Graz 2-1 in Thursday’s Europa League action, Afrosport reports.
The Nigerian forward started the game at Park Head but was unable to continue after going down in discomfort, clutching his hamstring, and was replaced by Johnny Kenny.
Iheanacho has scored three goals in eight competitive games for Celtic, including the previous 1-1 Europa League draw with Red Star Belgrade, since his free transfer from Sevilla in the summer.
Brendan Rogers’s side went behind to a Tomi Horvat goal in the 15th minute before responding back with second half goals from Liam Scales and Benjamin Nygren while Danish midfielder Tochi Chukwuani, of Nigerian heritage, was given a straight red card in the 70th minute.
In the other notable Europa League results involving Nigerians, Bamidele Yusuf scored in Ferencvaros’ 3-2 win away at RB Salzburg while Rafiu Durosinmi’s Viktoria Plzen defeated AS Roma 2-1 and Celta Vigo defeated Terem Moffi’s OGC Nice by the same scoreline. There was also a 2-0 win for Taiwo Awoniyi’s Nottingham Forest over Zaidu Sansusi’s Nottingham Forest.
