UEFA Europa League play-off: Barcelona to face Manchester United

Barcelona will lock horns against Manchester United for a place in the UEFA Europa League round of 16 following Monday’s draw in the Swiss city of Nyon.

The knockout round play-off is a two-legged fixture between the third-placed teams in the Champions League and the second-placed teams in the Europa League.

The play-off game, which will take place on February 16 in Camp Nou, will be the first time both teams face off since their quarter-final duel in the 2018-19 Champions League campaign that ended 4-0 on aggregate in favour of the Blaugrana.

The encounter will also renew the rivalry former Real Madrid stars Raphael Varane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro had against Barcelona during their playing stints in the Spanish capital.

After finishing third in their Champions League group behind Benfica and PSG, Juventus will face French Ligue 1 outfit Nantes in the Europa League play-off, same as Ajax against Union Berlin.

Other fixtures: Shakhtar Donetsk vs Rennes; Sporting Lisbon vs Midtjylland; Bayer Leverkusen vs Monaco; Sevilla vs PSV; RB Salzburg vs Roma.

Interestingly, eight winners of the play-off games will advance into the UEFA Europa League round of 16 where they will join the group leaders like Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Fenerbahce and Arsenal.
