Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) head coach Luis Enrique has dismissed his team are favourites ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg against Aston Villa at Parc des Princes, Afrosport reports.
The French capital outfit pulled off a big result in the previous round when they knocked out one of the title favourites Liverpool on penalties.
It has led to the believe that PSG are now stringy favourites to win the Champions League but Enrique thinks all eight quarter-finalists have a chance of winning the prestigious competition.
“Against Liverpool (in the last 16) bookmakers said we had no chance. In soccer, favourites do not exist,” the Spaniard said.
“There are eight teams that are in quarter-finals because they deserve it. We will need to do what we have to do and that we deserve to win on the field.”
Luis Enrique went on to praise Villa boss Unai Emery who was in charge of PSG between 2016 and 2018.
“He is a great coach,” he added. “Aston Villa are a great team. They progressed in the last two years thanks to Unai Emery.
“Aston Villa are a team that look like us, with many versatile players. It’s difficult to know who is going to play, especially after their winter transfer window where they have strengthened in a good way. It will be an open and difficult tie for both teams.”
