Raphael Onyedika was among the goalscorers as Club Brugge recorded a comfortable 4-1 win over AS Monaco in their UEFA Champions League league phase opener on Thursday, Afrosport reports.
Monaco had the chance to score from the penalty spot in the 10th minute but the effort from Maghnes Akliouche was saved by veteran Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
After early pressure from Monaco, Club Brugge settled into the game and took the lead in the 32nd minute through Nicolo Tresoldi before Nigerian midfielder Onyedika doubled the lead seven minute later from a corner kick for his second-ever Champions League goal in back-to-back seasons.
Club Brugge added a third goal via Hans Vanaken while Mamadou Diakhon netted the fourth in the 75th minute.
Substitute Ansu Fati scored Monaco’s consolation goal in added time for his first goal on his debut since completing his summer loan move from Barcelona.
