Kylian Mbappe was in top form as Real Madrid defeated Kairat Almaty 5-0 in distant Kazakhstan in the second round of league phase fixtures in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.
The game was the farthest a team had travelled in Europe’s premier club competition with Los Blancos covering a distance of 6,144 kilometres.
The long distance was however no barrier to their form as Mbappe put them in front from the penalty spot in the 25th minute before doubling it in the 52nd minute.
The French superstar of Cameroonian heritage completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute, his fourth in Champions League history, which have all come away from home and ties him with the tally of Italian legend Filippo Inzaghi.

Xabi Alonso’s men were still in the mood for more goals and got two more via substitutes Eduardo Camavinga and Morocco winger Brahim Diaz in the 83rd and 93rd minute respectively.
The victory temporarily sent them top of the league phase standings with two wins from two games and will next host Italian heavyweights Juventus in a high-profile match at the Santiago Bernabeu after the October International break.
