Marco Asensio continued his impressive goalscoring form for Aston Villa as they defeated Club Brugge 3-0 and 6-1 on aggregate to reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, Afrosport reports.
The round of 16 return leg at Villa Park started on a sour note for Brugge when Kyriani Sabbe was shown a straight red card in the 17th minute.
This allowed the Villains to build on their 3-1 advantage from the first leg with Asensio opening the scoring in the 50th minute.
Former Borussia Dortmund forward Ian Maatsen doubled the lead seven minutes later before Asensio completed his brace in the 61st minute after he was set up by Manchester United loanne Marcus Rashford.
It took Asensio’s tally to seven goals in eight competitive games since he completed his loan move from Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window.
The 29-year-old Spaniard’s tally is the second most by any player in Europe’s top five leagues since his debut at the start of February, behind PSG’s Ousmane Dembele.
