UCL: Hansi Flick highlights Barcelona problem despite win over Dortmund

UCL: Emery confident Aston Villa will beat PSG in quarter-final return leg

Hansi Flick stated that Barcelona made too many mistakes despite their comfortable 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.

A Robert Lewandowski brace and individual goals from Raphinha and Lamine Yamal put the Blaugrana in the driving seat to reach the semi-finals.

Flick, reflecting after the game, pointed out that the mistakes made from his team benefited Dortmund but was nonetheless satisfied with the result.

“Excellent result. We played at a great level, but we made way too many mistakes and we must work on that,” the German tactician said.

“Even more so when you play against a team such as Borussia Dortmund, with fast players and great defensive quality. Those mistakes benefited them. But tonight we defended well, and we played at a high level. I am very happy.”

Meanwhile, Dortmund boss Niko Kovac, is feeling optimistic despite the difficulty in trying to turn the tie around at Signal Iduna Park next Tuesday.

“I am always optimistic. But I am also realistic. I know this was a very big score, and that our chances to make it to the next round are minimal,” the Croatian said.

“But first we will analyse what happened. And we will try to play well in Munich (against Bayern Munich in Bundesliga), so we can face the second leg positively. We know it will be very difficult, but we must always maintain a little bit of hope. Without it, it wouldn’t make any sense to us.”

Barcelona are seen as favourites to win the Champions League, and currently top the La Liga standings.

They will also face Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final, putting them potentially on course for a treble.
