UCL: Emery confident Aston Villa will beat PSG in quarter-final return leg

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is confident his team will beat Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, Afrosport reports.

The Villains lost the first leg at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night 3-1, taking he lead in the French capital through Morgan Rogers but were pegged back as Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nuno Menses all scored for PSG.

While the advantage is in favour of Luis Enrique’s team, Emery believes his own team can turn things around with home support at Villa Park.

“We competed fantastic. We were close to getting a good result. At the end, with this goal (to make it 3-1 to PSG) is still more or less the same because I believe we will win next week,” the former PSG boss said.

“Villa Park is our home, hopefully we can feel there stronger. We can get the duels better than today and as well collectively trying to have our (attacking) moments more than we had today. But, of course, they are still the favourites. They showed their power. They showed us their individual qualities.”

Villa goalscorer Rogers echoed the sentiment of Emery, and is looking toward to the energy of the fans.

“We will play at home next week and it will be a huge challenge for us, but we will feel strong at home with our supporters at Villa Park,” the English winger told TNT Sports.

“We believe in our supporters, we believe in Villa Park and that the players can get the best performance next week.”


The winner of the second leg will face either Arsenal or Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
