UCL: Ancelotti questions Guardiola’s 1% qualification chance for Man City

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has questioned Pep Guardiola’s claim that Manchester City have only a 1% chance of eliminating Los Blancos from the UEFA Champions League knockout playoff second leg on Wednesday night, Afrosport reports.

The reigning European champions won 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium last week which led to Guardiola stating after City’s 4-0 win over Newcastle United at the weekend that his side had slim hopes of turning the tie around at the Santago Bernabeu.

The Spaniard later backtracked on those comments, admitting his team have a much higher chance of progressing which Ancelotti agrees with.

“He doesn’t think so. I’ll ask him before the game: do you really think you have 1% chances?,” the Italian said.

“He really thinks he has more, which is fair, and we don’t think we have 99%. We think we do have a little advantage and we need to make the best out of it, trying to play a game similar to the first leg.”

Guardiola has never failed in 16 seasons of coaching to take his team to the last 16 of the Champions League while the 2012-13 season was the last time City failed to reach that stage.

Madrid meanwhile has never failed to reach that round since the competition was rebranded in 1992.
