U23 AFCON: Guinea coach Cisse focused on victory against Congo

Guinea U-23 manager Morlaye Cisse has refused to dwell on the upsetting Group A defeat against 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations hosts Morocco but is rather focused on getting the needed three points against Congo at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday night.

The Guineans lost 2-1 to the Atlas Lions on Sunday, leading 1-0 for more than an hour before the North African giants rallied back to win.

Cisse asserted that his team have reorganised themselves this time around.

“Our approach is to look ahead and not dwell on the first match that ended in defeat against Morocco,” Cisse said ahead of the game.

“We have dedicated ourselves to comprehensive preparations, recognizing our strengths.”

Congo meanwhile lost their opener 3-2 to Ghana at the death and coach Cyril Ndonga is drawing inspiration from Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph when they lost their opening game to Saudi Arabia but adjusted and went all the way to win the competition.

“Our approach to this match will mirror that of a final against our Guinean counterparts. In modern football, fortunes can change rapidly” Ndonga stated.

“Argentina’s victorious journey in the last FIFA World Cup began with an initial defeat. Therefore, it falls upon us to exhibit efficiency on the field.

.”We are determined to witness the Warriors of Guinea crumble on the pitch.”

Ghana and Morocco face off in the other Group A game and victory for either side will see them through to the semi-finals.
