U20 World Cup: Nigeria off to winning start against Dominican Republic

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been placed in Pot 2 ahead of the official draw for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, Afrosport reports.

The draw, which will take place in Santiago, Chile’s capital city, on Thursday (today), is scheduled to begin at 10pm GMT (11pm Nigerian Time), with the 24 qualifying nations to be drawn into six groups of four teams.

The teams have all been placed into four pots of six teams, according to the FIFA ranking system, with Chile automatically set to Pot 1 as hosts.

The Flying Eagles, who recently finished third at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, have been placed alongside France, Argentina, Mexico, New Zealand and Ukraine in Pot 2.

Meanwhile, South Africa, winners of the U-20 AFCON, enter the draw in Pot 3, alongside Japan, Spain, Australia, Panama, and Norway.

Egypt and Morocco, Africa’s two other representatives at the U20 World Cup, are in Pot 4 alongside Saudi Arabia, Paraguay, Egypt, Cuba, Morocco, and New Caledonia.

This 2025 U-20 World Cup, the second to be held in Chile, will take place from 27 September to 19 October, across four cities in the South American nation.
