Hosts Togo played out a thrilling 2-2 draw against Niger Republic in the opening match of the WAFU B U20 Championship on Thursday.
The hosts were reduced to 10 men late in the game but their Nigerien counterparts failed to capitalise with Togo’s Aminou Tchadjobo named Player of the Match.
Elsewhere, Ghana scored a 95th minute penalty to salvage a draw against Benin Republic.
The Black Satellites took an early lead thanks to a strike from Jerry Afriyie in the 14th minute, but Benin responded with two goals from Modeste Konoudji (27’) and Gabriel Moulero (41’).

However, with time winding down, Afriyie scored a late penalty to secure a point for the Ghanaians.
Thursday’s results meant that the four teams in Group A are currently on one point apiece.
Meanwhile, hosts Togo will take on Benin in their next game, while Ghana’s Black Satellites will lock horns against Niger on Sunday, October 20.
