U20 AFCON: Nigeria to battle four-time champions in same group

Nigeria have been drawn against tournament hosts Egypt, Senegal and Mozambique in Group A of the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Young Pharaohs are four-time champions while the Young Teranga Lions of Senegal are three-time runners-up, finishing second as recently as 2019 when they lost to Mali in the final.

Nigeria are seven-time champions, the most-successful in the history of the U-20 AFCON, with their last triumph dating back to 2015 with a squad that had the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi who is now with Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

In Group B, 2021 U-20 AFCON runners-up Uganda were drawn against Central African Republic, South Sudan and the Republic of Congo.

Group C houses Gambia, Tunisia, Benin and Zambia.

The U-20 AFCON will take place from February 19 until March 11 across four Egyptian cities and stadiums.

The Cairo International Stadium in the capital city will host Group A games, while the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia handles Group B games and the Alexandria Stadium in the eponymous city of Alexandria for Group C games.
