The Zambia U-20 national team have landed in Egypt ahead of 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations which commences on Sunday.
The Junior Chipolopolo arrived in Cairo from Dakar after playing Senegal in a pre-tournament friendly, in which they lost 1-0.
Chisi Mbewe’s side also suffered a 4-2 loss to tournament Nigeria during their recent trip to Abuja.
The Southern African country have set up base in Ismaila and they are scheduled to play two more friendlies against debutants South Sudan and 2021 runner-up Uganda before kicking off their campaign against Benin in Group C on February 21 followed by games against The Gambia and Tunisia.
This will be Zambia’s first time at the U-20 AFCON since winning it as hosts in 2017 where they defeated Senegal 2-0 in the capital city of Lusaka.
Ghana are the current holders of the competition after beating Uganda 2-0 in the 2021 edition held in Mauritania.
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria are the tournament’s most successful team with seven titles followed by Ghana and Egypt with four apiece.
