The Flamingos of Nigeria claimed a 3-1 win over South Africa in the first leg of the penultimate round of the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Polokwane on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
Shakirat Moshood put Bankole Olowookere’s team ahead in the 20th minute before Harmony Chidi doubled the lead from the penalty spot three minutes to the half-time break
South Africa’s Bantwana pulled one back two minutes into the second half when Katleho Malebana converted from the spot. Chidi, however, had the last say when she completed her brace for the Flamingos in the 68th minute.

The two teams will do battle in the return leg at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne next Saturday, with the winner progressing to the final round of the qualifiers to face either Botswana or Algeria.
The 2025 U17 Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Morocco from 7 October to 5 November, with four other teams from Africa to join Morocco at the Mundial.
