The Flamingos of Nigeria edged closer to securing a ticket to the 2025 FIFA under-17 Women’s World Cup following a 2-0 win against South Africa on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
The Flamingos, fresh off a 3-1 win in the first leg in Polokwane last week, progress to the final round of qualification with a 5-1 aggregate victory over Bantwana at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Saturday.
Bankole Olowookere’s side got in the front in the 37th minute through a header from Harmony Chidi, who connected to a cross from Shakirat Moshood, adding to her brace from the first leg.
Nigeria’s lead was doubled by Aishat Animashaun 11 minutes into the second half when she was found by Moshood. Animashaun lifted the ball over Samekelise Mthembu into the net for her side’s second.
The Flamingos will play either Botswana or Algeria in the final round of qualifying, with the Southern African nation holding a 2-1 advantage from the first leg.
