U17 WWC: Flamingos boss Olowookere pleased with team’s performance

The head coach of Nigeria’s under-17 women’s team, Bankole Olowookere, expressed his delight at seeing the team finish with a hundred per cent record in the group stage of the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

The Flamingos defeated hosts Dominican Republic 1-0 early on Wednesday, courtesy of an 89th minute strike from Shakirat Moshood, to continue their perfect start to the tournament.

The Nigerian youngsters topped Group A with the maximum nine points, scoring nine goals and conceding one.

“I’m so happy, I’m happy for myself, happy for the team and happy for the whole of Nigeria,” Olowookere told FIFA media.

“We knew in this match we had to manage our energy and strength; these are young girls with many games to play so we had to take it easy.”

The Flamingos have a tough task ahead of them as they will be facing the United States in the quarterfinals for the second straight edition of the competition.
