Ahead of this year’s under-20 FIFA World Cup taking place in Argentina, Nigeria men’s U-20 national team coach, Isah Ladan Bosso, has called up 39 players to camp as they begin preparations for the Mundial.
Some weeks ago, the world football governing body FIFA withdrew the hosting rights from Indonesia and bestowed the duties on South American heavyweights, Argentina, in the hope that the already scheduled dates of May 20–June 11 would remain unshaken.
The Flying Eagles, who finished third at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt last month, booked their place as one of four teams that will represent the continent at the tournament, after beating Uganda in the quarterfinals. They will be joined by The Gambia, Tunisia and champions Senegal.
The duo of Chinoso Aniagboso and captain Daniel Bameyi, who were recently called up to the Super Eagles team, are joined by other regulars like Ibrahim Beji Muhammad, Solomon Agbalaka, who made the team of the competition at the U-20 AFCON, and influential midfielder Daniel Daga, who missed a large part of the continental tournament due to a foot injury he picked up in the opening game against Senegal.
The invited players are expected to arrive at the Chida Hotel, in the nation’s capital city of Abuja, on Sunday, April 16, with training set to commence a day later, on Monday.
