U-20 AFCON: Bosso declares Flying Eagles ready to compete in Egypt

Head coach of the Nigeria under-20 national team, Ladan Bosso, has stated his team are prepared to compete at the under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The Flying Eagles are set to take on Senegal at the Cairo International Stadium in Group A on Sunday and head into the tie on the back of victories over Zambia (4-2) and Kawkab Athletics Club U-23 (6-1).

The West African giants are the most successful team in the competition with seven titles, which puts them among the outright favourites.

“Nigeria has experience in major tournaments and we’re in Egypt to compete and we will give our best,” Bosso said on the CAF website.

“We received the support of the Nigeria Football Federation as we prepared for tournament with regular camps to be at a very good level,”

Team captain Daniel Daga is also in competitive spirit with two objectives on his mind.

He said: “We are proud to be in Egypt for this great tournament and we want to qualify for the FIFA World Cup and win the tournament,”

Meanwhile, Senegal manager Malick Daf, is looking to carry on the recent exploits of the country in CAF international competitions.

“We are here to continue success of our country on the continent,” he said.

The Teranga Lions were recently crowned winners at the 2022 African Nations Championship in Algeria, beating the tournament hosts on penalties. It followed their success at the Africa Cup of Nations last year as well as the Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations.

The Young Lions are three-time runners-up at the U-20 AFCON (2015, 2017, and 2019) and are on a 4-0 unbeaten run that stretches back to the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.
