Tunisia’s Jabeur powers on into Wimbledon fourth round

Ons Jabeur progressed into the Wimbledon fourth round with a comeback three-set victory over Bianca Andreescu on Saturday.

The Tunisian was broken by her Canadian opponent in the fourth game of the first set and went on to take the set 6-3.

Jabeur adjusted in the second set by breaking 2019 US Open champion Andreescu in the sixth game to win the set 6-3. Rain descended on SW19 and the game faced a brief interruption before being played under a closed roof.

The third and final set saw both players break each others serve in the fourth and fifth game but Jabeur had the last say as she broke back in the ninth game to serve for the set and ultimately win the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. She will get to face Czech ninth seed Petra Kvitova in the fourth round on Monday.

In other women’s singles results on Saturday, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Aryna Sabalenka, African-American Madison Keys and Elena Rybakina all moved into the fourth round.

On the men’s side, African-American Christopher Eubanks and Stefanos Tsitsipas moved into the fourth round with straight set victories while Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev needed four sets to go through.

Danish fifth seed Holger Rune had one of the most difficult games of the day, needing five sets to overcome Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) in almost four hours.
