Transfer: Liverpool announce Gakpo’s arrival from PSV

Liverpool have announced the signing of Netherlands star Cody Gakpo on a permanent deal from PSV Eindhoven.

The 23-year-old of Togolese and Ghanaian descents will move to the Premier League when the winter window opens in January, in a deal worth around £50million, including a guaranteed £37million.

A statement released by PSV regarding the deal read: “PSV and LFC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo.

“The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.”

Gakpo has been in fine form this season with 12 goals and 14 assists in 19 games for PSV.

The striker also enjoyed an impressive World Cup in Qatar, scoring three goals in five games for the Netherlands before being eliminated by Argentina in the quarterfinal.

Manchester United were initially believed to be the final destination for the attacker, having shown interest in him in the summer.

However, Liverpool have beaten their rivals to the signature of the in-form man following long-term injuries to attackers Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

Gakpo will sign a six-year long-term deal and will travel to England in the coming days to undergo medical tests and sign the contract.
