Transfer Deadline Day: Nottingham Forest sign Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea

Anglo-Ghanaian Callum Hudson-Odoi has completed a permanent transfer from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest, the club announced on Friday.

The 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, has signed a three-year deal worth around £5 million with add-ons for Steve Cooper’s side.

Hudson-Odoi will wear jersey No. 14 at the City Ground, where he will call home until June 2026.

The Three Lions forward told the media that he is excited about the deal and thanked the club for the “massive opportunity” given to him.

He said: “It’s massive for me to be here and I can’t wait to get started. It’s a new chapter for me.

“I know a couple of the boys already which was a big thing for me, and I obviously know the manager well, so it’s nice to be here and see familiar faces around.

“Forest is a big club which won two massive trophies in its history and I’m really excited to play at The City Ground. I know all about the atmosphere having watched a couple of times and I can’t wait to get playing in front of the Forest fans.”

Hudson-Odoi leaves Chelsea permanently after about 16 years, having come through the club’s Cobham Academy. He made his senior debut for the Blues in January 2018 and made 126 appearances for the team, scoring 16 goals and providing 22 assists.

The Ghanaian-descent forward won four titles during his time at Stamford Bridge, including the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Hudson-Odoi, who has had a tumultuous few years at Chelsea after finding it tough to secure a starting spot, has played three times for the Three Lions of England since he made his debut in March 2019.

He reunites with Cooper, his coach, during his time with the England Under-17 team that won the FIFA World Cup in 2017.
