Transfer Deadline Day: Morocco’s Amrabat to join Man Utd on loan from Fiorentina

Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has sealed a season-long loan move to Premier League giants Manchester United from Fiorentina, with the deal subject to a medical.

The 27-year-old, who reportedly turned down numerous offers from other clubs, finally gets his dream move to the Red Devils in a deal said to be around €10 million plus a buy-option clause worth around €20 million plus €5 million add-ons if United want him on a long-term deal.

Amrabat will become United’s third signing of the summer transfer deadline day after they acquired the services of Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and Spanish fullback Sergio Reguilon.

The Morocco international joined Fiorentina in 2020 and has since made himself an integral part of the team, having featured 107 times for Viola, helping them to the Coppa Italia and UEFA Europa Conference League finals last campaign.

He made his international debut for the Atlas Lions in 2017, and he currently has 49 caps to his name, including representing them at two FIFA World Cups, with the most recent in Qatar in 2022, where he shone as Morocco got to the semifinals and finished fourth in the Mundial.

Amrabat will reunite with Erik Ten Hag, who managed him during his time in the Dutch Eredivisie with Utretch, and he is expected to fill a huge void in United’s midfield that has been evident over the last three matches.
