Transfer Deadline Day: Ansu Fati joins Brighton on loan from Barcelona

Guinea-Bissau-born Spanish forward Ansu Fati has completed a season-long loan move from La Liga champions Barcelona to Brighton and Hove Albion, the Premier League club announced on Friday.

The 20-year-old La Masia graduate moves to the American Express Community Stadium until June 2024 in a deal without a buy-out clause.

Brighton are said to be paying 80 percent of his Barca contract, which will be around £160,000 per week and £7 million over the course of his contract.

Fati has, however, been ruled out of the Seagulls match against Newcastle United at the Amex Stadium this weekend.

“I am sure Ansu will help us to reach a new target and we can help him get back at the level he deserves to be.”

Fati played over a hundred games for Barcelona, scoring 29 goals and providing 10 assists, including 10 goals and 4 assists in 51 games last season.

Brighton’s head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, expressed his delight at the completion of the transfer and praised Fati for his qualities. He said, “This is a great deal for all of us.

He made his international debut for Spain in September 2020 and has enjoyed nine caps and scored two goals for La Roja.

Fati has however been ruled out of the Seagulls match against Newcastle United at the Amex Stadium this weekend.
