Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe says his team missing out on Champions League qualification next season will a “tough one to take”, Afrosport reports.
The Magpies are currently fourth on the Premier League table, tied on 66 points with fifth-placed Chelsea and sixth-placed Aston Villa, and victory over Everton at St. James’ Park in Sunday’s season finale will secure their place among Europe’s elite.
Should Newcastle however fail to get a result against the Toffees and results elsewhere go against them, it would make back-to-back seasons they missed out on the Champions League having finished seventh last term.
“Football emotions swing so quickly. In that moment it will feel like a huge disappointment because we have been in there fighting for two-thirds of the season,” Howe said ahead of the game.
“If we miss out it will be a tough one to take.
“We know what we need to do and what we want to do. All our emotions are towards that.”

Newcastle go into the game off the back of a 1-0 loss at Arsenal last week which ensured the race to finish in the top five went down to the wire.
