Tottenham’s James Maddison ruled out for rest of season

Tottenham Hotspur will be without midfielder James Maddison for the remainder of the season, manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed ahead of Thursday’s Europa League semifinal tie at Bodo/Glimt.

Maddison suffered a knee injury in Spurs’ 3-1 win over the Norwegian club in the first leg last week, and the midfielder will be reportedly sidelined for at least a month, ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.

The 28-year-old has been integral to Spurs’ Europa League success so far with three goals and three assists in 11 matches.

“Madders tweaked his knee in the first leg, so he is out and will miss the rest of this season,” Postecoglou told reporters on Wednesday.

“Yeah, disappointing for him because he’s been a big part of this latter part of the season for us, particularly in Europe.

“He misses out, but it has always been a constant of this season. Everyone else from the first leg travelled and is ready to go.”

Tottenham will also be without captain Son Heung-min for their tirp to Norway, with the South Korea international still battling a foot injury, while England striker Dominic Solanke has been passed fit for the crucial second leg encounter.

“Disappointing for Sonny as well,” Postecoglou added. “He has progressed, and there’s a possibility of him getting some game time at the weekend, but he hasn’t trained with the team yet.”

Spurs are looking to win their first European title since the 1984 UEFA Cup and their first silverware in 17 years.

The North London club holds a healthy advantage from the first leg against Bodo/Glimt and despite sitting 16th in the Premier League, triumph in the Europa League guarantees them a spot in next season’s Champions League.
