Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been banned for seven matches by the Football Association for a racial slur directed towards teammate Heung-Min Son, Afrosport reports.
The 27-year-old Uruguayan made some comments about the South Korean forward that were deemed by the Football Association in England as offensive and a breach of their regulations.
When asked for a Tottenham shirt by a presenter during an interview in June, Bentacur said, “Sonny’s? It could be Sonny’s cousin too, as they all look alike.”
The former Juventus midfielder, however, took to social media to apologise, saying it was a joke in bad taste, and Tottenham teammate Son defended him, adding that he knows he would never intentionally say something offensive.
Spurs midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been banned for seven matches by The FA and fined £100,000 for a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to a media interview.

This means he will miss games against Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea plus the upcoming League Cup game against Manchester United.
Bentancur has already played 15 times for Spurs this season and he opened his goal account for the season against Ipswich Town before the international break.
