Tottenham midfielder Bentancur set to have hamstring surgery

Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is set to undergo hamstring surgery that will see him out of action for up to three months, Afrosport reports.

The Uruguay international injured his hamstring in the 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth last week and will now miss a huge chunk of the remainder of the season.

His injury is a major blow for manager Thomas Frank, who is under increasing pressure after a poor run of result current sees them 14th in the Premier League.

The Danish tactician will be without Ghana winger Mohammed Kudus until after the March international break after he picked up a thigh injury in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland.

Spurs are also without James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, who are long-term injury absentees, while Brennan Johnson was sold to Crystal Palace for £35 million in this January transfer window.

The North London club were knocked out by Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round on Saturday and will next face London rivals West Ham United in the league on Saturday.
