Tottenham and F1 announce major long-term partnership

Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and Formula One have both announced a new “strategic partnership” on Tuesday.

The groundbreaking deal, which will last for the next 15 years, is expected to bring a “brand new motorsport experience” to London, with the first-ever in-stadium karting facility that will also serve as the Capital’s longest indoor electric go-kart track. The karting track will be built under the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The partnership comes after the unveiling of the F1 Arcade last season, offering fans the opportunity to have a first-hand acquaintance with an F1-themed night out that comprises simulators, race-themed food and drink, and music.

Tottenham announced the partnership through a post on social media that read:

“Tottenham Hotspur is delighted to announce a 15-year strategic partnership with F1 that will bring a brand-new motorsport experience to London.

“The world’s first in-stadium karting facility and London’s longest indoor electric go-kart track will open in Autumn 2023.”

Additionally, Daniel Levy, Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, said: “Since building this stadium our ambition has always been to see how far we can push the boundaries in delivering world-class experiences that will attract people from around the world all year round. We have been able to bring the biggest names in sport and entertainment to London N17. We are extremely excited about what this long-term partnership with F1 will bring for our global, national, and local communities.”

Stefano Domenicali, President, and CEO of Formula 1 said: “As we continue to grow our sport around the world, partnering with world-renowned brands like Tottenham Hotspur allows us to take Formula 1 and motorsport to new and diverse audiences. The karting experience will be a destination and place that families, friends, and aspiring drivers from all over the world will want to visit and enjoy, engaging new audiences and offering an accessible entry point to the world of motorsport. Our brands have a shared vision to create life-changing career opportunities, promote diversity and inclusion, such as through the recently announced F1 Academy, and drive environmental sustainability – our innovative partnership will bring all of this to life.”

Also, David Richards CBE, Chairman of Motorsport UK, the governing body for four-wheel motorsport in the region, said: “I congratulate Tottenham Hotspur and Formula 1 on this innovative partnership. This new karting facility aligns perfectly with Motorsport UK’s mission to inspire and enable more people to participate in our sport in a safe, fair, fun, inclusive and progressive environment. I look forward to seeing even more people enjoy karting but particularly to see a greater level of diversity amongst the visitors.”

The North London club revealed their main intention is to change the face of motorsport in the UK, with both parties providing educational services in local schools to highlight various pathways into motorsport, including engineering.

The long-term partnership will look to “provide apprenticeship and career opportunities” for young people with the purpose of adding diversity to the racing industry. The groundwork of the monumental partnership will be focused on underrepresented groups and women, while a driver academy program will also help identify the next generation of F1 drivers at the same time.

The new deal joins a long line of partnership between Tottenham and other sports following previous collaborations with the National Football League (NFL), Rugby, Boxing, Cricket and other events since the opening of their new stadium in 2019.
