Timberwolves star Towns sets expectations for new NBA season

Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Karl-Anthony Towns reiterated his expectations for the new NBA season, which begins later this month.

The Dominican Republic star helped Minnesota to a 111-99 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday in the first NBA preseason game of the year at the Abu Dhabi Games.

Towns, who poured in 20 points and grabbed four rebounds in 17 minutes, said after the game that he hopes to be the best he can for his teammates and also to be healthy all through the season so as to stay at the top of his game as possible.

“I think this is just me being the best I can for my team-mates, especially Mike [Conley], Rudy [Gobert], everybody,” the 3-time NBA All-Star stated. “Just being at the top of my game, I’m very blessed that I’m actually healthy around this time.

“So, you know, God willing, that stays true. So, I’m just going to continue. I think what you would expect from me is for me to do what I’ve done every day since I came into the NBA.

“Just be the best team that I can be and utilise my talents or help to help us win and to help us have an amazing season.”

The 27-year-old will be in action on Saturday for the final game of the NBA Abu Dhabi preseason games when the Timberwolves face the Mavericks in a rematch at the Etihad Arena in the United Arab Emirates.

Towns, who was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, will kick-off his eighth year in the league when the Timberwolves face the Toronto Raptors in their first game of the 2023-24 season at the Scotiabank Arena in Canada on October 25.
