Tennis: Djokovic, Murray end six-month partnership ahead of French Open

Novak Djokovic will no longer be trained by Andy Murray, as the two tennis stars have ended their partnership after six months, Afrosport reports.

Murray became Djokovic’s trainer in November 2024, with the Brit helping his former rival to the Australian Open semi-finals in January, where he was forced to retire due to injury against Alexander Zverev.

The decision to end the partnership, which was reported to be mutual, comes just 12 days before the French Open, with Djokovic in search of a record-extending 25th Grand Slam.

The 37-year-old Serb, who previously said he had hoped to work with Murray through the French Open and Wimbledon, has called time on their partnership after a poor run of form has seen him lose his first match in four of his past five tournaments, as well as a defeat to 19-year-old Jakub Mensik in the Miami Open final.

“Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun and support over last six months on and off the court – really enjoyed deepening our friendship together,” said Djokovic.

Murray, meanwhile, said, “Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together, and thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months.

“I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season.”

Djokovic, however, will be in search of a fourth French Open title when the tournament begins on Sunday, 25 May, at Roland Garros.
