Erik Ten Hag has branded the reactions to Manchester United’s FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry City “embarrassing” and “a disgrace”.
The Red Devils let slip a 3-0 lead at Wembley with 20 minutes to go and went on to win on 4-2 penalties.
United were heavily criticised by pundits and fans alike for their performance despite making it back-to-back FA Cup finals against rivals Manchester City but Ten Hag thought otherwise and rather bashed the media for suggesting the result was more of a defeat rathe than a win.
“No. Absolutely not. You [the media] made enough [of it] and one [journalist] made the question – ‘Is it embarrassing?’ No. The reactions from you [the media] were embarrassing,” the Dutch tactician said ahead of United’s Premier League tie with relegation-threatened Sheffield United.
“Why? It is. The comments. In football, top football, is about results, and we made it to the final and we deserved it – not only by this game, but also the also the other games. We lost 20 minutes of control [against Coventry City] also had bad luck at 3-2, 3-3.
“We were very lucky in the end – clear. With the penalties, it was very good and we made it to the final. And that is a huge achievement. And twice in two years [in the FA Cup final] is magnificent. For me as a manager, four cup finals in four years. So, the comments are a disgrace.”
