Iga Swiatek was full of joy when she lifted her first-ever Wimbledon title by defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in Saturday’s final, calling it a “super surreal” feeling, Afrosport reports.
The 24-year-old Pole needed only 58 minutes to dispatch her 23-year-old American opponent, making it the first double bagel in the Wimbledon women’s singles in 114 years.
It was Swiatek’s first trophy since her triumph at the 2024 French Open, making it the sixth Grand Slam of her career having won four titles at Roland Garros and the 2022 US Open.
She is also just the second player in the open era to win a Grand Slam without losing a game in the final after Steffi Graf’s triumph over Natalia Zvereva at the 1988 French Open.
“It seems super surreal,” Swiatek said. “I didn’t even dream, for me it was way too far. I feel like I am already an experienced player after winning the Slams before but I never expected this one.
“This year I really, really enjoyed it and feel I improved my form here.
“I am always going to remember the opening of champagne bottles between serves. It is a sound that will keep me awake at night.”
