Super Falcons forward Ifeoma Onumonu has completed a historic move to French side Montpellier Hérault Sport Club Féminines, the club announced on Monday.
Onumonu, who made her international debut with the Super Falcons in 2021, becomes the first Nigerian player to play for the club.
The 30-year-old forward recently played in the United States with the Utah Royals. However, after mutually parting ways with the National Women’s Soccer League (NSWL) club, she joins Montpellier HSC as a free agent.
Onumonu joined the Royals in 2023 in a trade from Gotham FC, subsequently finding playing time hard to come by as she managed only five appearances after suffering a bad ankle injury.
The California-born forward has been a frequent face in the Super Falcons team, representing Nigeria at both the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, as well as the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where she was called up to replace the injured Halimatu Ayinde.
Onumonu will don the number 11 jersey during her time with Montpellier HSC.
