Real Sociedad released a medical report on Monday that Nigeria forward, Umar Sadiq has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Sadiq was handed his first La Liga start this season on Sunday against Getafe, but he could only last for 38 minutes as he was assisted off the pitch due to a twisted knee.
The 25-year-old striker is scheduled to begin physiotherapy in earnest before undergoing surgical treatment.
It is estimated that the injury could keep him out of action till the end of the season, a blow for Sadiq who has scored three goals in five La Liga matches this term.
He is set to miss the Super Eagles’ clash against Algeria on September 27, in Oran and he faces up to 8 months in recovery.
Sadiq joined Real Sociedad earlier this month on a six-year contract, as a direct replacement for Alexander Isak who left Newcastle United.
The Super Eagles star played a key role in Almeria’s title-winning campaign in Segunda Division last season, thanks to his record of 18 goals and nine assists which also earned them direct promotion to LaLiga.
