Super Eagles soar to 28th in latest FIFA ranking after AFCON 2023 success

Nigeria are now the 28th best-footballing nation in the world after finishing second at the just-concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles are now the third-best country in Africa, after leaders Morocco and Senegal who were both eliminated in the round of 16.

The Super Eagles are the second biggest movers in Africa, after moving up 14 spots in the global ranking while Angola gained the highest points to climb 24 spots to 93 in the world.

Newly-crowned African champions are fifth in Africa and 39th in the world ranking, after Egypt who are fourth on the continent. Tunisia, Algeria, Mali, Cameroon and South Africa complete the top 10 footballing countries in Africa.

On the global scale, reigning world champions Argentina are unmoved at the top, followed by France and England as the top 10 countries are unmoved.

Countries in Africa and Asia are the most affected in the first FIFA ranking for 2024 after the conclusion of their continental tournaments, Asian Cup and Africa Cup of Nations on February 10 and February 11 respectively.
