Super Eagles remain unmoved in latest FIFA world ranking

Report: Super Eagles bow to Guinea-Bissau in AFCON 2023 qualifiers

Nigeria maintained their position in the latest FIFA World Rankings released by the football governing body on Thursday.

The three-time African champions are placed 40th in the world and they occupy the sixth position in Africa, following their uninspiring results in the two friendly matches played earlier this month.

Jose Peseiro’s men drew 2-2 with the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia on October 13 before claiming a hard-fought 3-2 win over 113th-ranked Mozambique on October 16.

Africa’s top-ranked team Morocco also maintained its 13th spot in the world rankings, and defending Africa Cup of Nations champions Senegal also remained unmoved as they kept their second and 20th spots in the continent and world rankings, respectively.

To complete the top five ranking on the continent, Tunisia, ranked third in Africa, dropped three places in the world stage from 29th to 32nd; Algeria moved a spot forward from 34th to 33rd; and Egypt, fifth in Africa, also maintained their place as the 35th best team in the world.

Other notable changes include Cameroon moving two spots down from 41st to 43rd; Mali moved up two places from 49th to 47th; next year’s Africa Cup of Nations host Cote d’Ivoire dropped into 52nd from 50th; and Burkina Faso, occupying the tenth spot in Africa, moved up two places from 58 to 56.
