In a sad turn of events, Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has reportedly lost his father, Afrosport reports.
The 28-year-old took to Instagram on Friday to announce the death of his father with a tearful emoji.
Although the goalie did not reveal the cause of the death, he shared a heartfelt tribute with the caption, “Rest in peace, dad”.
Nwabali was in goal for the Super Eagles on Thursday in their 1-1 draw against Benin Republic at the Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny in Abidjan as the three-time African champions secured a spot in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Finals in Morocco.
Nigerian fans and his Super Eagles teammates, like captain William Troost-Ekong and Victor Boniface, have taken to social media to mourn with the footballer and give their support.
In a message showing support and togetherness, Troost-Ekong’s wrote, “I love you, my brother; we’re together”. Meanwhile, Boniface wrote, “Stay strong, bro”.
The Super Eagles are back in action on Monday, November 18, when they take on the Amavubi of Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo in the final round of matches in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
