Super Eagles coach Peseiro impressed after visit to U-17 camp

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro is satisfied with the level of performance he witnessed when he visited the camp of the U-17 men’s team, the Golden Eaglets, in the nation’s capital city, Abuja.

The Portuguese continued his tour of the Nigerian youth system after watching Ladan Bosso and the Flying Eagles play out a 4-0 win against Capital City Football Academy earlier this month.

The 62-year-old believes the country is blessed with an unimaginable amount of football talents after observing the training sessions of the Golden Eaglets on Monday at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project pitch at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

Peseiro acknowledged the impressive display he witnessed from the players, and encouraged them to keep improving on their craft as they continue preparations for the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, which will be held in Algeria from April 29 to May 19.

He also advised the players who would not make the final selection not to be disheartened, as it does not mean they are not good enough or that it is the end of their young careers.

“I am impressed with what I have seen with the performance of the players here. Nigeria is known for having very talented players, so I am therefore not surprised with the performance of these players,” he told the NFF media.

“You have to keep working hard and keep improving your game. Unfortunately, not all the players here will be selected. You should not give up if you fail to make the final team,” he added.

The Golden Eaglets have been drawn in Group B with Zambia, Morocco, and South Africa, and they will begin their AFCON campaign against the Junior Chipolopolo on April 30, with all their group matches set to be played at the Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium in Constatine.

The last four teams at the tournament will earn automatic qualification to represent the continent at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in November in Peru.
