World number one Jannik Sinner said he feels hurt having missed the opportunity to win his first French Open title after losing in five sets to Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s final, Afrosport reports.
The Italian had three set points in the fourth set that could have secured the title but Alcaraz took it off him to come from two sets down for an epic comeback 4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-2) victory.
It also denied Sinner the chance to win his third consecutive Grand Slam after winning the 2024 US Open and 2025 Australian Open, ending a winning run of 20 matches in tennis majors.
“Of course, I am happy to deliver this kind of level, happy about the tournament still but obviously this one hurts,” the 23-year-old said.
“There’s not so much to talk about right now, but again I’m happy how we are trying to improve every day and trying to put myself in these kinds of positions. It’s a very high-level match, that’s for sure, so I’m very happy to be part of this, but the final’s result hurts, yeah”
He added: “I went through a difficult time. And the feature. It was a time when only I and the people around me knew how things went.
“We are 100% sure of it. So it was three months difficult to manage, so when you come back you want to win, you want to show, so in fact honestly it hurts even more to lose like that.”
What a tournament. Take a bow, @janniksin

Sinner will turn his attention to the next major on the grass courts of Wimbledon where his best result is a semi-final finish in 2023 when he lost to Novak Djokovic.
