Shehu Dikko named NSC chairman as President Tinubu scraps Sports Ministry

Shehu Dikko has been appointed chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) following the scrapping of the Ministry of Sports Development, Afrosport reports.

Bola Tinubu, President of Nigeria, dissolved the sports ministry on Wednesday as part of a run of ministerial changes that came as a shock to many.

The functions of the sports ministry were also transferred to the NSC, a body responsible for sports regulation in the country.

The NSC was dissolved in 2015 under the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, with Alhassan Yakmut having served as the last director-general.

Dikko, a renowned sport administrator, enjoyed a stint as Chairman of the League Management Committee (LMC) from 2014 to 2022, a period in which the body witnessed measured development.

The Kaduna-born sport administrator also served as the 2nd vice-president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Dikko is a member of the organising committee for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) inter-club competitions and club licensing management, and remains a member of FIFA football stakeholders committee.

Meanwhile, John Owan Enoh, the most recent minister of sports development, has been reassigned as minister of state for trade and investment.
