Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove has regained consciousness after collapsing on the pitch during their league match against Inter Milan on Sunday, the Serie A club announced on Monday.
Bove collapsed in the 16th minute at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, forcing the match to be abandoned as the 22-year-old was rushed to a hospital, where he spent the whole night in intensive care.
Fiorentina, however, released a statement saying that after an “uneventful night”, Bove was “awakened and extubated this morning” and that the he has regained consciousness and is “awake” and “alert”.
The Serie A club added that the Roma loanee has “spoken with his family, the club and his teammates who all rushed to see him as soon as they heard the news”.
Fiorentina added: “Further tests will be carried out in the coming days to establish what led to the critical situation that took place.”

After Bove’s sudden collapse, both Fiorentina and Inter players quickly beckoned for the medical staff, forming a protective ring around the player, who was lying on the floor.
Bove was eventually carried out on a stretcher and into an ambulance, before being rushed to the Careggi University hospital for treatment as the suspended match never resumed.
“The doctors at Careggi University Hospital who are treating the player have confirmed that diagnostic tests are ongoing,” added Fiorentina.
“Fiorentina would like to thank Careggi University Hospital and all of the doctors and staff for the wonderful humanity and professionalism they have shown.”
Bove joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan from Roma in August, and he has recorded one goal and three assists in 12 Serie A matches this season, with his first goal coming against his parent club in October.
Fiorentina, however, will be in action on Wednesday, when they host Empoli in the Coppa Italia round of 16.
