Serie A: Assane Diao scores winner as Como upset Napoli

Assane Diao scored the winner as Como upset Serie A title favourites Napoli at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Sunday afternoon, Afrosport reports.

The game was a reunion between Como boss Cesc Fabregas, who played under his Napoli counterpart Antonio Conte, when the latter managed Chelsea between 2016 and 2018, winning the Premier League and FA Cup.

It was newly-promoted Como that went ahead in just the seventh minute of play when Napoli defendr Amir Rrahmani put the ball into his own net.

It however did not take too long for the Partenopei to respond as Giacomo Raspadori equalised 10 minutes later.

The game remained 1-1 until the 77th minute when Como launched a counter attack and Assane Diao buried a low shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

It was the third consecutive league game the 19-year-old Spaniard of Senegalese heritage scored in and his fifth in eight games since joining from Real Betis in the January transfer window.

His Como tally and his one La Liga goal for Real Betis make him the youngest player in Europe’s top five leagues with the most goals.

The victory sees Como remain in 13th place on the table but are now seven points clear of the relegation zone while Napoli failed to move back to the top after Inter Milan’s 1-0 triumph over Genoa on Saturday.
