Senegal’s Diallo scores twice in Strasbourg’s Ligue 1 win

Senegalese forward Habib Diallo found the back of the net twice in Strasbourg’s 2-0 win over OGC Nice at Stade de la Meinau on Saturday.

The 27-year-old got his first of the game inside the opening 40 seconds to score the fourth-fastest Ligue 1 goal in 2023. The strike was the third time the forward had scored inside the opening minute in the top French division this season.

The former Metz forward completed his brace from the penalty spot in the 59th minute after Nice’s Jordan Lotomba brought down French forward Jean-Ricner Bellegarde. Diallo stepped up to take the kick and calmly slotted it into the bottom left corner.

The strike was his 20th goal in the league this season, placing him at number four in the goalscoring chart in Ligue 1, one behind Lille’s Jonathan David and four behind Lyon’s Alexander Lacazette and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe.

Diallo also became the first Strasbourg player since Albert Gemmrich in the 1977–78 season to reach the 20-goal mark in Ligue 1.

Strasbourg are currently 14th in the league standings with 38 points and are clear of relegation fears as they sit 14 points above Ajaccio in 17th.
