Former Fulham manager Scott Parker has been sacked as head coach of Belgian powerhouse Club Brugge following a heavy 5-1 loss against Benfica at the Estadio Da Luz on Tuesday night.
The club disclosed the news of his sacking on their official website on Wednesday, with a statement that read: “Club Brugge parted ways with Scott Parker earlier today.
Parker was appointed as Club Brugge’s new head coach on December 31, replacing Carl Hoefkens. Before his arrival in Belgium, the former England international was at the helm of teams like Fulham and Bournemouth. Parker won two of his 12 games for Club.”
The 42-year-old, who was shown the exit door at Premier League side Bournemouth at the end of August 2022, following a 9-0 thumping the Cherries suffered at the hands of Liverpool and on the back of subsequent defeats to Manchester City and Arsenal, led the 18-time Belgian champions to one win in their last seven games.
Under his reign as manager, Club Brugge drew six games, lost five and won just two matches, with the first of those two wins coming five games into his reign against 17th-placed Zulte Waregem in the Belgian Pro League.
In December, Parker replaced Carl Hoefkens who had only been on the job for six months. Hoefkens left his role as assistant manager to Ajax Boss, Alfred Schreuder who is now tipped for a return to the club after winning the Belgian league last season.
The former West Ham midfielder’s sacking comes fresh off a whitewash in Portugal against Primera Liga pacesetters Benfica which dumped them out of the UEFA Champions League, after back-to-back defeats against Gent and Oostende in the league.
Club Brugge, who are currently fourth in the Belgian Pro League standings, will face off against Standard Liege, who are two places below them in sixth, at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Sunday.
