Saudi Pro League: Ighalo’s Al-Wehda home debut ends in defeat

Odion Ighalo’s first game at the King Abdul Aziz Stadium ended in defeat as Al Wehda lost 3-0 to reigning Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad on Monday night.

The Nigerian forward is a new signing by the Mecca outfit and scored off the bench in added time on his debut in a 3-0 win at Al Tai last time out.

The 34-year-old started on the bench once again but Al-Wehda were no match for Al-Ittihad as the Lusohone contingent of Romarinho, Jota and Igor Coronado all scored in the space of 10 minutes in the second half.

Ighalo was introduced for Islam Hawsawi in the 69th minute, shortly before Al-Ittihad’s third goal and was ineffectual as Al-Wehda suffered their second defeat in four Saudi Pro League games this season.

In other results from Monday, Cameroon international Karl Toko Ekambi scored in Abha FC’s 2-1 win over Al Feiha while Al Raed overcame Al Riyadh 3-0, Morocco forward Mohammed Fouzair netting a brace and Algeria midfielder Amir Sayoud with the other.

Morocco number one Yassine Bounou kept his second consecutive clean sheet as Al Hilal defeated Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq 2-0, Brazilian and former Barcelona forward Malcom bagging a brace.
