Salah scoops second Premier League Player of the Season award

Salah urges Liverpool to “stay humble” in Premier League title race

Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named the 2024-25 Premier League Player of the Season, Afrosport reports.

Salah, who also claimed the award in the 2017-18 season, wins the award for the second time in his Liverpool career, having emerged victorious after public votes were merged with those from a panel of football experts.

The 32-year-old enjoyed a campaign for the history books, leading the Merseyside club to a second Premier League title and a record-tying 20th English title.

The Egypt international breaks Manchester City’s dominance in the end-of-the-year award, as it marked the first time since the 2018-19 season that a City player failed to claim the accolade.

Salah, meanwhile, fended off competition from Declan Rice (Arsenal), Alexander Isak (Newcastle), Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford), Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest), and teammates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch, who was named young player of the season.

The former Chelsea and Roma forward heads into Sunday’s final game of the season against Crystal Palace as the league’s top scorer and assists leader. He has scored 28 goals and provided 18 assists in the Premier League and moved into fifth in the all-time scoring chart with 185 goals.

He has overtaken Sergio Aguero (184) as the non-English player with the most goals in Premier League history and is two assists shy of tying Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne for most assists in a single season.

Salah, who recently penned a new two-year deal with Liverpool until 2027, was named Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year for the third time earlier this month, having received more than 90% of the votes.
