Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah and Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo lead a delegation of eight players nominated for the 2024-25 Premier League Player of the Season award, Afrosport reports.
The two African stars headline a nominees list that includes three Liverpool players, two from Nottingham Forest, and one each from Brentford, Newcastle United, and Arsenal.
Salah has enjoyed an exemplary Premier League campaign, leading Liverpool to their second Premier League title and 20th English league trophy. The Egypt international has 28 goals and 18 assists in 36 matches this season and is just one more goal or assist away from tying Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole for the all-time record for most goal involvements in a single campaign, with the latter duo achieving theirs in a 42-match season.
The 32-year-old has created the joint-second most chances (85) this season and is two assists shy of tying the record for most assists in a single Premier League campaign.
He has starred as Arne Slot’s side has won 25 games, drawn eight, and suffered just three defeats, with two more games until the end of the season—a trip away to Brighton & Hove Albion and a home fixture against Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, Mbeumo has also been crucial to Brentford’s success this season in their chase for European football. He has the third-most goal involvement (25) in the league this season with 18 goals and seven assists and has been ever-present for the Bees in all their 36 matches this term.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian is the first ever Brentford player to be nominated for a Premier League Player of the Season award.

Salah and Mbeumo, however, will need to fend off competition from the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool), Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest), Alexander Isak (Newcastle), and Declan Rice (Arsenal).
According to the Premier League, fans have until Monday, 19 May, to cast their votes for the preferred candidate, with the fan votes to be combined with those of a panel of football experts to crown the winner, who will be revealed in the coming week.
