Salah, Adingra on target in Brighton and Liverpool stalemate

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah and Ivorian youngster Simon Adingra both found the back of the net as Brighton and Hove Albion held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at the Amex Stadium on Sunday.

Adringra, who made his international debut for Ivory Coast early this year, opened the scoring for the home side in the 20th minute, capitalising on a mistake from Dutch defender and Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk. The 21-year-old intercepted a misplaced pass from the center back before slotting the ball into the goal and past Alisson Becker, who was well out of his line.

Salah drew the visitors level 20 minutes later with a well-taken left-footed strike into the bottom corner and past Dutch goalie Bart Verbruggen off a well-timed pass from Darwin Nunez.

The Egypt international put the Reds ahead from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time with his second goal of the game and his fifth in the Premier League this season. After Pascal Gross brought down Dominik Szoboszlai in the box, Salah stepped up and converted the kick with a well-placed strike into the bottom left corner.

Liverpool almost got a third goal, but summer signing Ryan Gravenberch was denied by the crossbar following a cutback from Szoboszlai.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s men were finally punished for not taking their chances when Brighton’s captain, Lewis Dunk, drew them level in the 78th minute. The Englishman, who was left unmarked, tapped in from close range off a set piece from Solly March.

Both sides continued to fight hard for the winning goal, and the home team should have gotten it when Adingra played Joao Pedro in with a cutback, but the Brazilian forward fired his attempt over the crossbar from close range.

The two teams got a point apiece, and the Seagulls remain without a win in their last four games, while Liverpool failed to win in back-to-back league games for the first time this season.
