Bukayo Saka has expressed his disappointment despite scoring a landmark 50th Premier League goal for Arsenal in their 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday, Afrosport reports.
The 23-year-old returned to the team after missing the last two competitive games due injury and put the Gunners ahead in the ninth minute.
Arsenal led 2-1 at the end of the first half and it remained that way until Egypt Superstar Mohamed Salah equalised for Liverpool with nine minutes of regular time left.
It denied Arsenal the chance to close the gap to the top and Saka is still hopeful they can win some silverware this season.
“Hopefully that can push us to some silverware as well. I hate to miss games, so I was buzzing to be back. I had this game in mind to come back for and I was feeling good out there, and I was happy to get an early goal” he told the club website.
“We’re disappointed. I feel like we didn’t show our best selves for 90 minutes and it cost us in the end. We believe we should have won it.
“For sure, there’s definitely some positives – Liverpool are a top team, credit to them. But the overall feeling is that we didn’t show our best selves for the whole game, especially more in the second half, and it cost us in the end.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also praised Saka for his consistency saying: “It’s his consistency and the fact that he’s very young as well and he’s been very lucky with injuries so hopefully he continues to be there, but after a few weeks off, the way he played and competed was exceptional. I think we had some big, big individual performances in the team.”
Saka now has a total of 11 competitive goal involvements (four goals, seven assists) in as many games this season while Arsenal are in third place on the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Manchester City.
